Convergint colleagues around the world are continuously striving to improve their communities and make a difference in the places that they live and work. This includes devoting time to train and upskill the next generation of professionals in the security systems integration industry.
Convergint and the Compton Unified School District in California are working together to launch the Convergint Technical Apprenticeship Program (TAP)–Convergint’s first apprenticeship program–at Dominguez High School. This program will begin at the start of the school year in September, and students will be introduced to hands-on technical knowledge and skills in the industry, with the curriculum covering safety and basic electric, cable, infrastructure, and systems integration principles.
In preparation for this apprenticeship program, Dominguez High School teachers attended a two-week training course this summer led by local Convergint colleagues. Dominguez’s teachers are now prepared to actively instruct, review, and test students on core skills to pursue a career in security systems integration. Throughout the duration of the TAP, teachers will have continued technical and hands-on support from Convergint to ensure the best possible experience in the classroom.
“Many students aren’t aware that pursuing a career in the systems integration industry is an exciting and rewarding career option, and this apprenticeship program is an important opportunity for our students. As educators, our role is to help guide students towards success after graduation, and we saw an opportunity to prepare our students for jobs in security systems integration by partnering with Convergint, a leader in the industry,” said Mr. Caleb Oliver, Principal at Dominguez High School.

With the rollout of the Convergint Technical Apprenticeship Program, Convergint will raise awareness and expand knowledge about the industry, and bring job opportunities directly to students who are interested in pursuing a future career in this field.
Following the program launch in Compton, Convergint plans to expand this offering to schools across the U.S., with Atlanta and Chicago as the next locations.
