It was cold and snowy Chicago day in January 2001 when Convergint Technologies was founded by Dan Moceri and Greg Lernihan. Starting with just the two of them in a basement, Dan and Greg created a company from a strategic plan that centered on a core platform of Values & Beliefs that still guide Convergint and its company culture today. Under Dan and Greg’s leadership, Convergint has since become the second largest systems integrator in the world.
Moceri started his career in the building controls industry after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Milwaukee School of Engineering (MSOE), for which he currently serves on the Board of Regents. He also received his master’s degree in Management from Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management. MSOE awarded Dan with an honorary doctorate during their 2016 Fall Commencement ceremony. Watch his degree conferral and speech below.

Highlights From His Speech
On Continuous Development...
“Read profusely, learn everything you can about your field, and then learn more. Demonstrate that you have the drive and the knowledge to take on more responsibility – not only in your career, but in improving the world around you.”
On Giving Back...
“I am particularly proud of our focus on community within Convergint. You see, we believe that if you are working for Convergint, you have already achieved a level of success that many people have not or cannot…. With that success comes a responsibility to give back: to help others that may not be as fortunate as you and me.”
On Leadership...
“Most people can be a manager, but being a leader means much more. A manager manages tasks and delegates, whereas a leader inspires – elevating their team to higher levels of achievement.”
On Fun and Laughter...
“At Convergint, our last Value and Belief is all about having fun. You are going to work hard, so make sure you enjoy the work you do….In the end, that’s what really counts: that your work is something that fulfills and excites you, as much as it provides for you.”
On Excellence...
“No matter what position you are in, strive to be the best. Go above and beyond the job description. I can tell you that the best get recognized; the rest do not.”
