Convergint Disability Connect Sponsors Awareness Walk in Support of Spina Bifida Awareness Month

Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida is an annual event where we raise awareness for Spina Bifida and gather donations that help with education, grants, and gatherings throughout the year. My wife and I originally got involved because our son was born with Spina Bifida. So now we make it our effort to attend every year so we can help bring awareness to Spina Bifida not just for our son, but for every person who is affected by it.

It was great to be onsite during the event because it give us a chance to meet and get to know other parents who have kids or loved ones with Spina Bifida. It’s also great for our son to be able to see there are kids just like him who are there to raise awareness as well. Having a bunch of people attending in support was a great thing to see!

Convergint’s affinity group, Convergint Disability Connect, sponsored this walk in support of my son, as well as everyone else who is affected by Spina Bifida. I have worked as Service Specialist at Convergint for almost two years now, and I know that Convergint fosters to be an accessible, inclusive, and equitable place for all colleagues. So, I reached out to them about this event and told them about Spina Bifida’s direct impact on my family and they ended up donating to the event as a whole. This donation helped a lot in providing the necessary supplies needed to each member for the event. Not only did Convergint send a donation, but Convergint also directly sponsored my son’s team and paid for everyone’s team shirts which was a huge help.

Walk-N-Roll for Spina Bifida helps in offering a lot of support because it gives parents a chance to meet other parents who are caring for someone with Spina Bifida. It also gives the kids a chance to meet and play with other kids who also have Spina Bifida, which is great because they get to see other kids who are just like them. And the donations for the walk is what goes even further, the Spina Bifida Association puts that money into research, advocacy, education, and much more to help aid in the mission of the Spina Bifida Association. Which is why we want to thank Convergint in sponsoring this event, because it allows the SBA to follow their mission to help every person who is affected by Spina Bifida. But no matter how big or how small the donation, every penny helps!
