In Conversation: More Than 20 Years in the Security Industry with Daniel Morris

I started as an apprentice electrician at the age of 17 in 1999 with Prosys Services, a company successfully acquired by Convergint in 2022. During the first decade of my career, I was extensively involved in projects at a tertiary education institute. I received on-the-job and technical training in systems such as Gallagher (Cardax), Concept, analogue multiplexers, and the early stages of IP-based cameras and DVRs. My responsibilities included cable installation, lock, reader, control panel termination, and CCTV system installations.

I worked as a service technician and site supervisor for the next eight years, specialising in system cutovers. Approximately seven years ago, I transitioned into my current role, which involves commissioning, integrating, and providing support for security, access control, CCTV, and intercom systems. I also work with diverse technology partners from within the security and audio-visual ecosystem.

Over the course of my career here, I have had the privilege of collaborating with skilled technicians who have mentored and taught me. Additionally, I have undertaken numerous training courses that have been instrumental in shaping my current expertise and position.

Yes, my career at Convergint has experienced substantial growth over the last 20-plus years. Starting as an apprentice, I have advanced through various roles within the organisation. This progression has equipped me with a skill set that I can leverage as my responsibilities have expanded. It has also allowed me to have a significant influence on the setup, integration, and support of systems over time.

Convergint prioritises professional development by offering regular training opportunities through workshops and courses. Additionally, mentoring newer colleagues has been invaluable to my growth and development within the company. It has also given me the opportunity to share my knowledge with the next generation.
