Convergint was built upon a solid foundation of Values and Beliefs, one of the most important being “We expect to be our customers’ best service provider—no matter what business we are in.”
For schools and educational institutions, the safety of students is top of mind. With the dramatic rise in mass-shootings across the United States and Texas, many schools are taking student-safety ever more seriously and opting for solutions to provide the best possible outcomes should tragedy, like an active shooter, strike.
In this case study, find out how Convergint worked with ASR Alert Systems to deploy a solution to help the Lingleville Independent School district ensure the safety of their students and staff by implementing state-of-the-art active shooter response technology.
Mission: Prepare and Respond to Crisis Events for the Safety of Students and Staff
The Lingleville Independent School District is a public school district located in Lingleville, Texas. It has approximately 285 students in grades PK, K-12 with a student-teacher ratio of 10 to 1. Lingleville is a tight-knit community and while the total crime rate for Lingleville is low, the school district makes safety of its students a top priority. Erath County, where the school district is located, is a very large county spanning over 1,000 square miles. The school district itself if remotely located with limited cell phone coverage in the area. With this in mind, decision-makers knew that in urgent situations, their cell phones may not be reliable and a VOIP phone may not be readily accessible in order to call 911.
Lingleville ISD needed a solution to help solve this problem to ensure fast response to critical events so Convergint and ASR Alert Systems stepped in to help.
Solution: The ASR Threat Alert System
The solution was technology with strategically placed panic buttons throughout the school that aren’t hindered by the same cellular limitations of cell phones to communicate.
ASR Alert Systems is a patented state-of-the-art critical incident response technology specializing in the field of alert notifications to Law Enforcement and First Responders should an active shooter event or other crisis occur. The system is designed to allow communication directly with law enforcement with the press of a button, reducing response times, which in turn can save lives. The technology can be customized to any building and is designed to integrate with existing technology solutions and critical incident response policies.
What separates ASR Alert Systems from the competition is their patented technology which sends an emergency notification directly to First Responder (Police) Dispatch Centers, Real Time Crime Centers, and all those under attack. The critical information delivered mitigates response times during an emergency. Trying to seek shelter, unlock a cell phone and dial 911 during a crisis can be alleviated with the ASR Threat Alert System.
With the ASR Threat Alert System installed, the Lingleville School District now has the ability to contact local first responders allowing officers in the area to be contacted should a crisis, like an active shooter event, occur at the school. This allows first responders and police to know what is happening, the exact location of where it is happening (including address, aerial images, and location within the building), and who it is happening to. This not only helps police respond immediately with accurate information, but it also helps those inside the building to know where the threat is located so they can run away from the danger, not towards it.
Result: Fully Automated Direct Communication to First Responders
The successful deployment of the ASR Threat Alert System solution gives students and staff at the Lingleville Independent School District the ability to summon help in an emergency with the simple push of a button. By integrating this technology with their current response polices and procedures, the district is helping to ensure the best possible outcomes should crisis strike because saving time saves lives.
“Having an emergency panic system in place that isn’t hindered by spotty cell service here in Lingleville is a huge relief. We are now confident that, if a crisis happens on our campus, we can get the help we need quickly and expeditiously.”
~Walker Cole, Director of Campus Safety and Student Behavior, Lingleville
