On April 28, the Security Industry Association (SIA) hosted the 2021 SIA GovSummit, the nation’s premier government security conference connecting government, security, and technology. This virtual conference featured insights from experts in government, industry, academia, and the nonprofit sector on the security issues that matter the most to government agencies.

David Klug, a SLED expert at Convergint, presented on how the most recent COVID-19 relief legislation may impact safety and security technologies, as well as what to anticipate from the additional relief measures to be considered by the 117th Congress. Klug also shared insight on the security solutions that fall into the allowable uses under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act and the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

David J. Klug has over 30 years of experience in public safety, security, and biometric technologies. Klug started his career as a forensic scientist at the Northern Illinois Police Crime Laboratory and earned a B.S. in criminalistics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and an M.S. in forensic science from the University of Illinois College of Pharmacy. Since performing a national study of Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice in the late 1980s, Klug has presented professionally at ISC West and to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences, the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences, the International Association for Identification, the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), INTERPOL, and various defense and homeland security groups. He was also a contributing member of the U.S. Department of Defense’s Gatekeeper On The Move–Biometrics team for contactless, multimodal biometrics and threat detection. Today, Klug is responsible for state and local government and education strategic business development for Convergint’s eastern U.S. regions.
