In its December issue, Security Info Watch highlights companies who provided volunteer support or made financial contributions to their local communities within the past year. Convergint Technologies was highlighted in the Security Gives Back list for its distinguished social responsibility work, provided as part of its 18th consecutive Convergint Social Responsibility Day, as well as its STEP Up program—featured in a Security Info Watch article.
Convergint’s 2019 Social Responsibility Day
For the past 18 years, on the first Friday in June, Convergint has been closing for a full, paid workday so its colleagues may go out and serve their communities. For this year’s Convergint’s Social Responsibility Day, 2,872 Convergint colleagues—including family members and colleagues from partner organizations—volunteered at 104 organizations in 80 communities.
Security Info Watch highlights the story of a North Charleston school that received a security upgrade as part of the STEP Up program in 2019.
“When the principal at one of those schools – Karen Durand of Saint John Catholic School in North Charleston, S.C. – got the news that Convergint was donating security cameras, FOB systems and upgrades, she was overwhelmed. “I cried,” she says. “We have a small school with a significant number of special-needs students, and our resources are limited. The (new systems) are truly a godsend for our school community.”
According to Durand, the newly installed cameras in the school’s sensory and cooldown rooms increased the level of safety, enabling staff to monitor from their offices at all times.”
Nearly 15% of all colleagues participating in the 2019 Convergint Social Responsibility Day were involved in providing community support through Convergint’s STEP Up—Secure, Train, Educate, and Protect—initiative, dedicated to enhancing school security in underserved areas. Since STEP Up’s introduction, Convergint has provided free interior and exterior security systems installations, security upgrades, and security assesments to more than 20 schools in local communities.
