In Conversation: Convergint Director of Safety on 2023 Safety Strategy and Goals

As Director of Safety, it’s my job is to set the strategy that allows Convergint to create the safest work environment possible for our colleagues. That means connecting colleagues with data that allows them to make the right decision at the point of risk, consistently communicating best practices across our global organization, and ensuring compliance with the latest standards.

In our industry, safety culture is critical, and we believe that every colleague must own safety. Convergint’s Values and Beliefs are the bedrock of our safety culture and help us prioritize safety across all areas of the business—it’s reflected in the work that we do every day. We also have safety support in each region for our colleagues to turn to for guidance, such as our Local Safety Coordinators and Regional Safety Champions. This support is supplemented with robust safety training and tools to assess hazards in the work location. It’s important that colleagues have the tools and training they need to make safe decisions.

The core tenants of a strong safety culture are education, communication, and transparency. We work hard to ensure that our experts are trained properly to be effective at their jobs and my team works diligently to stay ahead of emerging safety guidelines, the education process is continual. Finally, we are very transparent about our global safety goals and objectives and use data to track and communicate our progress.

At Convergint, one way we are proactive about safety is by encouraging colleague engagement in the safety process. We provide the training and education our colleagues need to understand the hazards in their workplace, we provide tools to identify and manage hazards by completing a thorough and honest Job Hazard Analysis before starting work each day, we regularly inspect our tools and equipment, and we always wear the right PPE for the job.

Convergint’s strong safety culture ensures that our customers receive the highest possible quality of service, from colleagues that are trained in the very latest standards and best practices. Safety is just one of the ways that we are our customers’ best service provider–it increases customer satisfaction and reduces the risk of liability.

In 2023, we’re focusing on eliminating ladder injuries, being the safest drivers on the road, and leveraging data to help our global teams make safer decisions.
